SHE

She walked down the dark lane,
The world upon her head.
The sea of grief threatened to swallow her whole,
Yet she worked to keep afloat,
Tried yet failed.

Everywhere she turned,
She saw someone, something,
That embodied and represented her past,
The overwhelming present and the future,
She tried to keep calm,
To walk without a care in the world,
This failed too.

She started to crack,
The feigned smile and façade she tried to keep up wore out,
Doubt reared it's head,
Confidence stood to draw it's sword,
In the end,
It too backed down.

She needed to stay strong,
Forget the insecurities and fears,
Confidence was all she needed,
All she craved,
Freedom from the fear,
The troubles which tried to drag her into the world's black hole.

She needed respect,
Self-respect and all that came with it,
Freedom from the weird looks and snickers,
The comments about being grotesque,
She craved hope, love, faith and more than others,
Confidence.

She had to stay true,
Start the cleansing ritual,
To be truly pure and whole,
Confidence will be her boost and energy supply.

There were women who had gone through so much,
Just like her or even more,
Fate had dealt them a worse hand,
But they too had resurfaced from the bottom of the ocean,
The warped view of the world,
It's broken mirror,
Ceased to affect them,
They had found purpose and the will to live again,
And self-doubt with it's entourage,
Took their place in the ocean,
Never again to be seen.

" Judging yourself by the standard of society can confuse your perception of yourself and self-worth. Society should not define who we are or who we are meant to be. It is never pleased so why do we try so hard? We can only ever be a product of our actions, not the words of the people. Judge not yourself by the standard of the mirror but by your own standards. "
